Citizens of visa-required countries need a type C visa for a short trip to Ukraine (tourism, business, private visit). It allows a stay of up to 90 days within 180 days. One of the grounds for the visa is an invitation from a host in Ukraine.
Types of invitations
- private — from relatives, friends, a fiancé or fiancée;
- business — from a Ukrainian company or organisation;
- tourist — from a travel agency.
Who issues it and how
- An individual (a Ukrainian citizen or a foreigner lawfully residing in Ukraine) issues the invitation at a notary as a notarised statement.
- A legal entity issues the invitation on official letterhead with the details required by the Visa Rules.
Since 2017, an invitation issued by the State Migration Service is no longer grounds for a short-term visa, so individuals must go to a notary.
Applying for the visa
With the invitation, the foreigner applies at a Ukrainian embassy or consulate, or obtains an e-visa at evisa.mfa.gov.ua (for citizens of countries on the Foreign Ministry list). Proof of sufficient funds and medical insurance may also be required.
The current visa regime for each country is published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: mfa.gov.ua.
