    Detailed description of the service — read

    A foreign or stateless child adopted by Ukrainian citizens acquires Ukrainian citizenship from the day the adoption decision takes effect (Article 11 of the Law of Ukraine "On Citizenship of Ukraine").

    When it applies

    • both adoptive parents are Ukrainian citizens;
    • one adoptive parent is a Ukrainian citizen and the other is stateless;
    • one adoptive parent is a Ukrainian citizen and the other is a foreigner (the child must not acquire the foreign parent's citizenship);
    • a stateless person permanently residing in Ukraine is adopted.

    Main documents

    • application (a child aged 14+ gives consent), two 35 × 45 mm photos of the child, birth certificate;
    • an adoption decision of a court or the competent authority of the child’s country of residence;
    • documents on the adoptive parents' citizenship;
    • documents on the child's citizenship or its absence.

    A child who acquired Ukrainian and another country's citizenship at birth or by operation of law may hold both — since 2026 this is expressly provided by law.

    • Written consent to the SMS obtaining information about you and copies of documents from foreign authorities and international organisations (para. 7)
    • Documents issued abroad must be legalised (or apostilled) unless a treaty exempts them, with a notarised Ukrainian translation (para. 5). Originals are shown; copies are certified by the SMS officer or consul.

    How the check works and what you get

    1. You upload documents for each item on the list for your ground (the list is below, with links to official sources).
    2. An AI system reads the documents and compares them with exactly this list: presence, validity dates, complete pages, legibility, translation, matching names, dates and numbers.
    3. You get a report for each document: a green, yellow or red signal, the reason and what exactly to fix. Anything not checked is marked separately.
    4. The check does not establish that documents are authentic, does not certify translations, does not assess your legal situation and does not guarantee that documents will be accepted or that the decision will be positive. It is not a lawyer’s consultation.
